Hello, I’m Lou. I am a warm, inclusive therapist working in person in Exeter, Exmouth and online. I offer grounded, relational therapy for people feeling overwhelmed, or in distress.

“Together we can explore what’s underneath — whether it’s finding your way back to yourself, or meeting that self for the first time.”
Louise Averies Counselling in Exeter, Exmouth and Online
I work with anxiety, identity, self-worth and all forms of disconnection. Real connection is sometimes hard to find in our society. Most people don’t realise how disconnected they’ve become — until something breaks down. Therapy isn’t about finding what’s wrong with you. It’s about making sense of what’s happened and finding a way through. It’s about building a relationship where you can be seen, heard, and met. From that, something begins to shift.
About Me
I have always been drawn to people and their stories - how we are shaped and influenced by our childhoods, our attachment styles and how these impact our lives and relationships today.

Like many others, I have navigated my own struggles and found therapy hugely beneficial. The experience of sharing some of my deepest fears and feelings has been transformative and I believe it can be for you too.
I have compassion and understanding for anybody who may feel in need of my support.
I am a therapist based in Exeter and Exmouth, also offering online therapy for clients across the UK.
How I Work?
I work relationally - I am involved and engaged in our sessions, and I take my work seriously. People matter to me, and I care. I don't claim to know the solution, but I may ask the right questions and we can work together to uncover the answers already inside of you.
My approach is gentle but clear and responsive – I believe the connection and trust we build becomes part of how things start to feel more manageable.
I offer a safe and confidential space for exploration and self-discovery. Sometimes people come to therapy carrying deep grief, trauma or painful life experiences. Sometimes it is a bit more subtle - a sense that something isn’t quite right. Voicing struggles or concerns out loud, to a skilled listener can feel liberating and bring a sense of relief.
I am particularly interested in our early relationships and experiences - how the ways we were treated, understood or overlooked can stay with us long after we’ve grown up. Many of us learn to hide how we're feeling and develop ways of coping, leaving us feeling misunderstood or less at peace. This can be a lonely place to be. I can offer my presence, experience and steadiness to help you move toward a more peaceful way of being.
I provide walk and talk therapy locally, as well as online therapy for anxiety, low mood, or emotional overwhelm.
Who I Work With?
I work with adults from all walks of life, and I welcome the full range of human experience.
I have worked with people facing anxiety, low self-worth, or relationship struggles - as well as those exploring identity, feeling stuck in old patterns, or simply trying to make sense their lives.
I have experience supporting clients who are:
Navigating life transitions or emotional overwhelm
Exploring gender, sexuality or neurodivergence
Struggling with body image or self-acceptance
Healing from trauma, including childhood or relational trauma
Trying to find their voice in the face of external pressure or expectations
As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a range of approaches depending on what suits you best. I work with each person as an individual, respecting their unique experience of life.
I believe everyone can benefit from therapy; you don’t have to be in crisis. Sometimes it's about growth and finding greater happiness.
Many of my clients come to me for help with childhood trauma, relationship issues, or struggles with self-worth.
I volunteer with Intercom Trust - a local charity supporting the LGBTQ+ community in the South West and The Quiet Mind Centre in Exmouth, supporting a diverse range of individuals with care, inclusion, and respect.
I welcome clients of all backgrounds, and I strive to create a space that is LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodiversity-friendly, and trauma- informed.
Whoever you are, you are welcome here.
If there is anything you would like to ask me, please text, call or email.
